Madden St, Wynyard Quarter
Hawkins Construction / Allco Coreflex / Below Ground, Under Slab, Roofs and Decks
WQIP Building 5A at 8–14 Madden Street forms the first stage of the Wynyard Quarter Innovation Precinct, a commercial development in Auckland’s waterfront district. The six-storey office building provides approximately 10,000m² of office space, including ground floor café and retail areas, with a two-level basement car park beneath the building footprint and extending under the adjacent laneway. The project was delivered by Hawkins Construction.
The site presented a number of waterproofing challenges, including a high water table, saline conditions, and the presence of contaminants. As a result, the below-ground system was required to manage hydrostatic pressure while also acting as a vapour barrier to limit the potential ingress of hydrocarbon vapours.
MPM Waterproofing Group carried out the below-ground waterproofing works, installing Allco Coreflex across the basement tanking system, including lift pit and slab-on-grade areas, with full coverage to the tanked envelope. This was the first installation of Coreflex in New Zealand. The works were monitored throughout by independent quality assurance engineers from Tonkin and Taylor, who are trained and certified CETCO inspectors.
