Green Roof Waterproofing for Sustainable Urban Spaces

Specialist systems that support soil, planting, and drainage while keeping the structure below watertight.

Waterproofing that brings nature to the roofline

Green roofs require high-performing membranes that can withstand root penetration, heavy water retention, and movement over time. MPM Waterproofing installs robust green roof systems tailored to the unique demands of vegetated rooftops across Auckland and Northland.

Our certified applicators work with leading product suppliers including Nuralite and Allco to create watertight layers that support soil depth, landscaping, and stormwater management, with full compliance to NZBC E2 and B2. With more than 30 years of experience, MPM delivers durable waterproofing for eco-conscious builds, from rooftop gardens to commercial podium greenspaces.

Applications

Terraces over living or commercial space

Provides waterproofing beneath rooftop gardens, seating areas, or shared spaces above apartments, retail outlets, or offices.

Apartment and multi-unit complexes

Used in high-density housing developments to create outdoor zones that also protect the building envelope.

Podium decks with landscaping or pavers

Enables integration of green spaces, planter boxes, or paved walkways without compromising the waterproof layer.

Eco-friendly developments

Ideal for buildings seeking green certification or incorporating energy-efficient design through vegetated roofs.

Rooftop amenity areas

Protects structures below rooftop lounges, bars, pools, or communal zones while supporting heavy loads and surface finishes.

New builds and refurbishments

Suitable for both new construction and retrofitting projects to add or upgrade green roof systems.

Our Process

  • We assess load-bearing capacity, drainage design, soil depth, and planting requirements at your Auckland site to ensure the structure is suitable and to specify the correct membrane system before work begins.

  • We select root-resistant membranes and compatible drainage and protection layers suited to the green roof build-up. A detailed quote and scope of work will be provided before any work begins.

  • The substrate is cleaned and primed to ensure a strong bond and consistent membrane performance across the roof area and all junctions.

  • Our certified applicators install the root-resistant membrane system using manufacturer-approved methods, with careful detailing at all upstands, outlets, and penetrations.

  • A final inspection is completed under MPM's QA framework. We provide site photos and warranty documentation on completion.
